In January of 2020 I decided to work on a self portrait - something I have never done. The energy of the new year still felt heavy and somewhat unnavigable, and I could not focus on just myself, but a portrait was emerging. The unintelligble writing felt like all the stories in the world at the time - stories we hear, stories we tell ourselves, stories we grew up with. The person in the portrait is obscured by the writing, but I could not leave the work there. I added shimmery purple dots in the form of a Merkaba to add power and balance to the face.
