I have been commissioned by liturgical committees on several occasions to create stained glass mosaic artwork of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I have been true to every detail and nuance of her traditional appearance as I interpret the image into glass and grout. In this artwork for my personal collection, I’ve created a Guadalupe that is mystical and modern at the same time. Stained glass details add emphasis to the design elements of smoke and destruction at her feet, and the brown, earthy shapes of her mantle. Our Lady of Guadalupe is considered to be a Black Madonna, and I love using all the colors of nature mixed together for her skin tone. The energy of rebirth and renewal is highlighted in the center of her figure.
The artwork is a silk painting with stained glass embellishments, 36” x 24”, stretched on a small profile canvas and ready for framing.
