I have created several stained glass mosaics of the traditional image of Our Lady of Guadalupe for worship space commissions. I wanted to create a 'modern' Guadalupe with my own interpretation of her symbolism, using my fabric paints and adding stained glass details as a nod to my previous work. Since she is an expectant mother, I wanted to capture this new life energy - especially in these perilous times of climate change. I have her standing on a smoky pile of 'earth debris' and her mantle is made of brown leaves and sticks, but she is radiant in her power and promise for rebirth and renewal.
