I worked on this large painting for over a year. At first, I wasn't sure what the concept was, but at the time I was painting it there were terrible wildfires all over the world. I began to add fiery yellow and orange on top of the blues and greens of earth and water, depicting areas of burned-out destruction.

I didn't want this climate change tragedy to be the final word on this earth painting, so I added the wispy white shapes coming up out of the water that felt powerful and healing. Inside the shapes I collaged silk painting pieces onto the painting for the vibrant colors they add. To me, these colorful shapes represent the energetic memory the earth has of every single human, animal, tree, plant, insect, cloud, stream, mountain and vista that has been lost. It brings me great peace to know that the earth keeps a memory of all things and will bring back everything that has been lost.
